Slicing Vikram Vedha

Hi all,
After quite some time I loved seeing a movie, and I was eager to catch up more on the layers of the movie and wanted to see it multiple times.
The movie which I mean here is Vikram Vedha. I am neither a critic nor a person who knows the intricacies of film making and the nuances of it, but with some interest and all the interviews I followed I have slowly understood and getting a bit of it.
This post is a bit of it, may be correct or may not be correct, for this is my understanding from the movie of what went into it.
SPOILERS AHEAD !

The unsolved riddle..Puriyatha Puthir

Hi all,
Movies have become my favorite time pass in this city, not just the new ones, am seeing the old ones now. When I was going through a popular site which has almost all the tamil movies, I came across this movie. This movie, very few people know, and it was not a blockbuster as far as I know.
Most surprising thing about this movie is that it's the first movie of K.S.Ravikumar, who is one of the well established 'producer's director' as they call him. KSR who is known for his commercial flicks, has never been seen as a technical director nor a strong story oriented director. But this movie made me feel the opposite way.
The movie entirely is a thriller, came in the 90s, but even now it gives you the necessary thrill.
The story is simple , it describes a murder, and the whole movie is about finding out who did that. It doesnt involve heroism dialogues, or superior logical thinking to solve it. The way the screenplay moves is how you and me will react under that situation, so not a masala movie, where hero always wins.

The main cast for the story is Rahman, Raghuvaran, Rekha. Raghuvaran's role is just awesome, and nobody can enact his role the way he did that.
Rahman
Rahman, a prisoner being convicted for a murder case, escapes from jail and in the process of escaping, lands up in Rekha's house by accident, and asks her to protect her from police, as they both knew each other from their college days. And Rahman finds that Rekha has killed her husband Raghuvaran, just minutes before Rahman entered the house. They both decide to hide the murder, and proceed to do so. The movie unfolds with a series of events, which leads more to the story, which leads on to more information on murders happened in the story. Then finally the case unfolds like there are some murders which are linked but no clue to lead who commited all those.
Late. Raghuvaran
The story justifies the title 'puriyadha puthir' meaning a confusing riddle. The climax is apt for the story, and the screenplay is just awesome. The screenplay forms the main highlighting factor of the movie, without which it would have been a ordinary cop-thief story. While movies like Thalapathy, Ravanan took the negative character as the main lead of the story, and justified the story from their point of view, this movie has shown everything from a different view, to make you guess who is the murderer, it never shows who is the main lead of the movie, all characters having a beautiful part to play shows the movie from everybody's perspective, multiple perspectives in a movie is not a cake walk to handle, one scene more or less would spoil the party.
Till the last scene, where the mystery is solved, the movie has enough twists to keep you engaged, except for a song which kinda slowed down the movie, its a good flick.
Raghuvaran's role, fetched him a lot of accolades for his role, and its not just another role, which everybody gets a chance to play with, Raghuvaran has essayed his role with terrific ease.
The ' I Know' scene of the movie, is still widely known, the only scene which I remembered , before seeing the movie now. I forgot the plot, the climax, but this scene I remembered even after decades. That shows the impact of the scene, the way Raghuvaran did it.
Another important thing in the movie is that, usually crime stories doesnt have much comedy in it, but this has enough comedy too, sometimes you feel its unnecessary, but its good when compared to the movies which was releasing in the 90s.

The movie has technical aspects too, considering the time the movie released. The first scene where Rahman escapes from the jail shows KSR's thinking , the initial scenes will cover only the middle portion of the screen, and then when a door is opened or something like that happens, the full screen is used to show details. This is in 90s, while now in 2010, we have Mysskin showing only below the knee level in the full screen, this is nothing but a advance in thinking of what KSR did in 90s.
The movie is a must watch for all who love thrillers, and mystery.
For all you people having a good download internet connection, it can be downloaded in,

(You can use IDM to download the movie from this site, thats what I did :P )

(P.S : At last when i googled for information on this movie, wiki said this movie is a remake of some 1970 hindi movie, KSR !?!?! )

Beware of Midnight Dogs...

Hi all,
I had one idea in my mind, that blogs are meant to be fun,and thats wat I expect from reading blogs.. So i decided only good things should be in my blog, but after seein this movie, I had no other medium to vent out my anger..This is purely my point of view, and u may hav a entirely different look for the movie. Gautam Menon, whose movies are known for very good songs, and camera work , has tried a new idea for this, thats the only thing positive in the movie.. The story is about a psycho guy, its only about that. The movie says its based on a real life story, and I don know what was the original incidents, and whether those incidents in the movies are what happened really..NN , comes out of the banner of Photon Kathas, Gautam Menon's own production house ,and RS Infotainment , which produced VTV, Gautam Menon's previous flick.

The movie has no songs, no background sounds , which is a rare thing in Tamil Cinema, thats a brave attempt by Gautam Menon, kudos to him !! But from my perspective,he should have done that for some other decent subject, other than this.

Probably, his idea was to convey the real life incidents ,in real manner..
The camera work is done by Manoj Paramahamsa, of Earam and VTV fame. His work is really good in this movie again, his lighting has definitely improved from Earam, which was a Ghost movie, and this movie , which is a combination of all mental disorders as far as I know.
Kudos to his work,he has created the effect among the audience through his camera work, with no background sounds, thats really a terrific achievement, the climax part, he stands out clearly, he should hav definitely put in a lot of effort to convey the character's essence.
This is one of the very best camera efforts , among the movies, which I have seen. I have no idea about the camera work though, still if I can tell the amount of work involved, definitely people who are into photography and related stuffs will definitely appreciate hos work..

Then comes editing , Antony ,who is again the regular editor for his flicks from Kakka Kakka to this one, has done his best to create the thrill effect, which traditionally other movies induce by the sound effects. His cuts has been good, particularly during the climax , and scenes during the initial flashback. The psycho character's essence is made clear to the audience only thru his editing for sure.

Art direction again by Rajeevan, again a part of Gautam Menon's films from the past, has put his best in this too.
I guess as far as the critics go,this movie , is a great attempt , with the technicalities , and the story bein conveyed , the final message watever he intended to tel is told .
But from my perspective , who is jus another boy in this world, this movie , fails to arouse the thrill which the the movie said in its trailers, the story is too predictable , after the initial 15 mins, it took 1 hour to convey, how a psycho killer will feel , which I felt worse. Climax part is good, but on the whole my take on the movie is , why make such a movie, which is good only for the critics.

This movie , is definitely not for family audiences, and its promotion said it will be of genre of Sivappu Rojakkal, a BharathiRaja movie. I guess it didn fit exactly , the thrill part is missing, its only scary due to the vulgarity shown , there is alwas a difference between thriller and a scary picture,  the former is lacking in this movie. The movie displays too much of vulgar content, which they have tried their level best , to reduce, but it cant be reduced more than this, as the plot itself is like that :(

And for the name , as Nadunisi Naigal , dogs come in the climax , as to thrill the audience in the climax scenes, but I feel it should have been much before, all we felt in the theater during that time was, when wil the climax end, so that we go out to see the result or highlights of the worldcup match..

My final take on this movie, a creditable achievement by Gautam Menon and team , but its worthy too watch Payanam or Yutham Sei or the world cup even, u can atleas save ur bucks for a better flick nex time !!
For all you people fans , of  breezy romantic scenes of Gautam Menon , this is definitely not a movie for you folks ! For all people fans of movies, who love to see different kinda movie, this may be the one for you,no assurances ...
And for all VTV die hard fans, a small scene from this movie Nadunisi Naigal, comes in VTV !! Find it out !!

Bye till nex,
