Hi all,
Once in a blue moon, some movies come and will have impact on you even after you come out of theater even for hours, and one such movie is this Mayakkam Enna..
I had seen the trailer sometime back, when it was released, but when I went in to the movie, I had nothing in my mind, I just wanted a good flick at the end of the day, but the movie served more than what I wanted..
The movie's lead character is 'Karthik Subramaniam' essayed by Dhanush, who has definitely justified his national award once more in this movie, he has proven that national award for best actor is not a joke.
The female lead is 'Jamini' played by Richa, anyone who sees the movie, will appreciate her acting , particularly in the second half..
These actors have definitely performed well, but the movie's real hero is the director SelvaRaghavan, and the cinematographer Ramji, the duo joined together in their last venture Aayirathil Oruvan. The technical team reamains more or less the same from the last movie, GV Prakash Kumar as music director, and editing by KolaBaskar.
The movie is about Dhanush, a young man trying to be a wildlife photographer, and his gang of friends. The first frame of the movie shows a camera , even before the title comes up , that was just awesome. Dhanush, makes attempt to be as assistant to a pro photographer Madhesh Krishnaswamy, and he has his gang of friends whom he hangs out with, or to put it better grows up with.
Later he meets up, Richa, who is actually Dhanush's best friend Sundar's crush. Things dont go well between Dhanush and Richa initially, and later as the story evolves, things go better, and then they start liking each other. Richa admires Dhanush's interest in photography , the passion he has towards it, though he is not a expert in it.
The rest of the story is simple, how he comes up in his life , whether he succeeds in his passion, and whether he wins his lady love, and does the lady love stay with him through his up and down. The story is simple, but the screenplay is so nice, that you wont feel the length of the movie, half the time you expect Selvaraghavan style twist in the movie, and end up on the wrong side on most of the times.
I am not writing down the story here, but the movie has almost all emotions covered, father son, friendship, love , betrayal , innocence , anger , frustration everything..
Its a typical Selvaraghavan movie, except for the fact that nobody dies in the movie, at last in a Selvaraghavan movie nobody dies.
The movie has a back drop of photography and hence the cinematography should be in synch with that, and definitely Selva's visuals have done it, Selva's imagination combined with Ramji's camera work gives you that feel, that next thing you should do after coming out of the movie is grab a good SLR camera and take pics ..
The feel which the movie gives can be felt only in theaters with all the frames in the movies, showing how beautiful photography is, how beautiful one can feel when he pursues his heart, as the movie tagline goes follow your heart.
Some dialogues I liked a lot, particularly when Dhanush cries after his photos gets rejected as sub-standard, Richa consoles her, with "you follow your heart, only then you cry if your work gets rejected, if its just another work even if you fail many times, you wont cry as your soul is not into it " and a dialogue where Dhanush tells Richa that he will never leave his photography, though he is not a expert in it, he likes doing it , and he will continue doing so, is just awesome.. That scene where he oscillates whether to continue photography or not , and he sees a old woman in road, and takes pics of her is just awesome, and that forms the deciding scene whether to pursue his heart or not.
Selvaraghavan has definitely mastered the screenplay in first half, but in second half to show the frustration anger , the dark part of his life is shown darker, and hence it gives a Aaaaaaargh ! feel sometimes..
Some parts of the movie , definitely lags behind, none of the friends notice whats happening between Dhanush and Richa, Sundar who loves Richa, never notices that he doesnt get any attention from his love , and some scenes between the three look far fetched.
Music by GV is just awesome, particularly the theme, songs were a runaway hit from the day they came out, the theme music will ring through your ears even hours after you come out of the movie..
But on the whole, a great movie for Selva fans, Dhanush fans, and definitely not the movie for lovers of commercial flicks..Its a beautiful love story in Selvaraghavan style..
And probably more camera's sell in the near future, and even worth twice a watch if u get that feel, and it makes you see it again and again..
Bye till next,
