Hi all,
There are somethings which everyone feels proud of. One such thing is getting a job, and this post is for such a reason.
Today, its October 18th 2011, exactly 1 year back I joined SAP Labs India , and its been a great year.
And for everyone their first pay check is special, no matter what the amount in it, for me it was from HP, wish I had taken a photo of the check, to get the money soon, I immediately en-cashed it.
Now I have completed 1 year in SAP, and its more than just an office to me now. Dont know why I feel so, probably cos i had seen an IT company before SAP, I felt more relaxed in SAP and now I feel completely at home. Its been a great year.
One year @ SAP has taught me many things, I had some college frens with me when joining HP, but on the contrary I had known nobody in SAP when joining, day 1 was entirely different. I was sitting alone , and a couple of freshers was there, but as expected they were speakin in Hindi, and since I don know Hindi, I thought I got screwed, and luckily to save me there were 2 people speakin in Tamil , that time I realized power of tamil , semmozhiana tamizh mozhiyam !!!
They were sitting in another corner of the room, while I was sitting in another corner, the guy who was sitting with me was having a really tough time with me, as he kept on speaking in hindi, and i was like 'ji haan ! nahi nahi ..ek gav mein en kisan rahata da.. adukumela enaku edum teriadu ji ' . I realized the power of tamizh then, that guy disappeared after lunch. And luckily I found 2 guys both senior to me speaking in tamizh, and I joined with them for lunch, and after lunch we sat together.
'Hari anna' as I call him, joined with me on the same date from Keane, and the other fellow tamilian 'Vignesh anna' joined one week before us, but attended the induction program with us. They both are from Coimbatore, but had never seen each other before, and all of us were put in different teams.
After the joining formalities was done, it was time for the technical sessions, which kept going on and on for a marathon 22 days ! It was out and out fun during that time, people who had seen SAP GUI would find it too difficult, thats the same way we felt, did not know where to click, it was all complex, and till now I still wonder how did they get the customer base with this kind of UI. Not that am a UI specialist who can design a cool UI, but still the screen made me feel yuck.
The rest who attended training with us, would not believe that we met for the first time there, cos we became so close immediately, and we kept on speaking and laughing . Since I was fresh from college I had some basics rite, and since they were already experienced they had the ability to understand the complications involved. For me debugging was nothing but calls of printf , complex program was a program with 500 lines of code, and those days changed it all. Those long coffee corner talks, lunch breaks, walk around the beautiful campus, made our days. We kept on speaking , pulling each other's legs, teasing the batch mates. There was one trainer , who kept on introducing himself, ' I am Shantaram Hegde, I go to a ..' this is how he will start with to give us some practical scenario, and though he was there with us only for a day, that dialogue was in our minds throughout the training, and now too..
And it was in one such day during the training time, I started blogging, and I feel great continuing it for an year now.
And after the induction, Narayanan anna, another fellow tamilian who was colleague of Hari anna in Keane, joined with us, or to put it better, jothi la aikiam ananga . The database he had about the people in the company, was the one which impressed all of us a lot, and another highlight factor he is from Tirunelveli.
And even now, we go for coffee breaks together mostly, and lunch definitely together. We went to movies together, dinner, roaming etc. and its been a great experience with these friends.
We had our fun moments during the training phase, then the initial bench phase, and after that work phase, and of course all the events , DKOM the developer party event, SAPs Annual Day, were full fun with lot of booze.
Apart from the fun part, I had learnt a lot of things here in SAP, the techie side is one thing, my team mates would feel for it, having me in their team, as I always have questions, but no solutions :) Personally, its been a satisfying year as far as my work goes, and I joined with Vignesh anna for a weekend MS course for working people, and we have successfully crossed a semester in it.
And due to all this, SAP is not just an office, but more than it to me. I spend most of my time in office, I return to house just for sleeping most of the days, I remain awake hardly 2-3 hours a day in home during weekdays.
Personally, I had realized what I can and what I cannot, this blog is a testimony to it, and its one of the very few extra activities, which I had started and continuing it for almost a year now.
Thanks for reading my blog and ur comments for it , and keeping it alive :)
And I wish it continues year after year !
Wishing you a happy prosperous and safe diwali !
