Acid test

Hi all,
Indian cricket is back again, and with a convincing win in Srilanka, the season has opened up with a bang ! Virat Kohli's heroics was the highlight of the tournament, and he will be definitely a player to watch out for , and to the other extent Rohit Sharma is struggling hard to make the scorers work, he hardly had given any work for them last series.

Now the action shifts from blues to whites, and it cant be taken lightly, as we have a very tough season ahead of us.
The Kiwis who are coming here after a defeat against the Caribbeans have some thing to hope for against Indians as, the fabulous five is no longer there. India will take time to transform now with Laxman and Dravid retiring over a period of 6 months, the middle order is completely young , team's experience completely relies upon Sachin now. With all others moving out of the team due to 'rotation policy', none of the team member apart from Sachin has a confirmed berth.
Aussie cricket, for instance is still recovering from the retirement of the greats, the rhythm one would expect from the Aussies is still not achieved. So the same thing will happen to India, no player is permanent in the team, and everyone is replaceable , but the only question that remains is how long does it take to do so.
For an Indian cricket fan like me, there is something to cherish too, we have a tough season ahead of us, but its in home conditions. We have 10 test matches and 13 ODIs and a couple of T20s all in home, apart from the ICC World T20 in Srilanka. Srilanka has become more like a outing place for Indian Cricket, if there is a 3 week gap, we can always play against the Lankans, and the conditions is more or less like Indian conditions. So we can count the world T20 also as something as home conditions.
Sachin , though no one knows when he will retire, the young brigade has to learn from him, as we cant expect him to carry the expectations of a billion people eternally, his time will soon come, and like the remaining, he too will have to hang his boots.
India was ripped of the first ranking after a disastrous tour to England, and then to worsen the wounds we had equally a bad tour of Australia, and now with Rahul and Laxman retiring, we really have a tough job in hands.
Virat Kohli, would like to capitalize on this situation to cement his position in tests, and will surely remember what happened to Yuvi, who could never cement his place in the test squad. So Virat will eye for position no 3, and Pujara and Badrinath Raina would eye position 5. Badrinath, has always been a test player, seeing him play reminds me of Dravid in his early days, where sweat comes out the helmet every time he lowers his head.

Without the local hero, the interest in tomorrow`s match is at an all time low and it remains to be seen how Dhoni`s men wriggle themselves out of this situation.Having slipped to No. 5 in less than a year`s time in Test rankings, the youngsters would be keen bring the team back on track during the home stretch before next year`s South Africa tour.

With the opening left right combination Gambhir Sehwag duo proper, Rahane might not have a chance in the playing eleven.  With the absence of Dravid and Laxman, we have to fill in the void slip cordon too, no one can replace Dravid there, though he was not at his prime over the last series , nevertheless no one can ever reach the heights he had set in the slip cordon. So Dhoni's think tank has to work on this too.

Both Sachin and Sehwag might have the mickey out of their head , and can play their natural game. With Sachin completing his milestone of ton of tons, Sehwag back to home conditions both will be hoping that they set their momentum in the rite track.

Indian bowling was never a solid line even on paper, but having the youth trio of Ashwin,Ojha and Chawla, everybody would be taking the advantage of sidelining of Bhaji. Ashwin and Ojha will have a chance in playing eleven, the mystery which everyone is wondering is how on earth did Piyush Chawla get a chance.

With back to back defeats , Kiwis will already be depleted and they will be missing Vettori for sure. And they did not have a practice match even here, probably with IPL, they are getting used to the subcontinent. But nevertheless defeating India in India is not a cakewalk even for the strongest of the teams, the task for the Kiwis is pretty tough, only hope they can have is on their bowling, which should take advantage of the fact that Indian batting order is not as strong as it was quite some time ago.

Nevertheless, the series looks to be a promising one , and a test match in Bangalore, I am eagerly waiting to see the master back in action again.

Bye till nex,

  1. The biggest test is how the new generation going to play away. From dec 2013 till 2015 WC , India will be going to SA,NZ,WI,ENG and AUS :).. And for honestly speaking more than Dravid,Laxman or even sachin , India will have its biggest loss wen zak retires. Still we havent got a bowler who can sustain for a long time
