Hurdles of a common man

Hi all,
Like all of you, I was waiting eagerly to catch up the movie Viswaroopam, from the moment its teaser got released, the expectations went sky rocketing for the movie.

KamalHasan, has done a lot of movies which got the reputation he has, and of course he earned wrath of many too. He has donned almost all roles which anyone could think of , behind the screens as well as on the silver screen. He has acted, choreographed song sequences, assisted directors, directed some, sang some.
After all these, when he actually started producing movies, he became a businessman, after all the world runs on money, and he wanted a fair share of the profit from his movies too.
He has given great blockbusters, and has equally got disasters in box office, from his own production house, as well as from others.
Now, when it comes to Viswaroopam, he has kept the news about the movie under wraps for a long time, and only when he released the trailer many of us came to know that he was actually doing  a movie.
Unlike the Superstar, he has got bad reviews, bad remarks often, and critics are not afraid of writing negative points about the movie, as Kamal Hassan 's movie should always make sense and it should never have any flaws. But this time, its different - before the movie is even released he has got enough things on his plate which he has defended, and some more things which might come too which he has to defend. Its totally unfair.
Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday evening, made a decision to stop the release of the movie after being certified by Censor Board. And today after a hearing, it was decided to stop the release until next monday, while the movie's first day show had already started in Malaysia.

Censor Board, to my knowledge has the best of the persons involved, and they see all the movies which gets released , they will be mature enough to certify a movie whether its fit for release or not. Where was this same Government when junk movies was released, did they stop screening of it. When a movie was given an Adult rating , did the Government take steps to ensure that only adults go to the movie, and not the school kids.
Coming to the first controversy he faced,  the release of the movie in DTH a night before the original release of the movie. did the government pitch in and say that what he proposed was not illegal and will help the movie producers and will eventually set a trend that all good movies will get a fair amount of revenue directly.
To be honest, movies like Pizza, Nadula konja pakkatha kanom, Kadhalil sodapuvadu epadi , Vazhakku en 18/9 , Attakathi which where last year's significant big hits which did not have a good star cast did not even release in Karnataka. If its the case in the nearby state, consider the rest of the country and also other countries. Tamilians have been living abroad since years now and the market for movies is good there as well. All Tamilians living outside the state would have definitely watched all these movies and for sure its the local pirated version which we all saw. Infact it would have been the same print which everyone of us have seen. If KamalHassan would have succeeded in his attempt, and had the Government supported it, many of the producers would have gained a lot. Paying 1000 Rs for one time wouldn have worked out for a movie without a star cast, but an amount like 500 would have definitely worked out. Atleast some market which the pirated guys encash in would have been reduced by this. But, Government stood on its own and the industry remained silent as it would affect their future as well, while he was actually trying to help all of them.
Even Pongal release Samar had a late release, it got a release here because the Karthi starrer Alex Pandian literally killed all people who had the guts to get inside the theaters. But the time was too late, pirated versions of the movie was already out from day1 of its release. Whatever the story is, whoever the hero is, it should come in the right time.To put a analogy, Century against minnows or world's great team doesnt make a difference if it results in a losing cause, but a century against even the minnows would be rated very high if it saved the team from a humiliating defeat.

Kamal Haasan's letter to the public
Now the next controversy, about the movie showing Muslims in bad light. In India, they may be minorities, but in the world they are more. When the Da Vinci Code released, while it had questioned the reliability of the Vatican, the core existence of the Church even, the movie had no problems even in Vatican. While in India, when most of the people did not even know such a movie was releasing the following week, protests kicked in against the movie. When the whole world accepted it, it was stopped in India.
Same is the case here, the movie is getting released worldwide, it has already been screened in Malaysia, which is a Muslim country. People there dont have any problems, but when it comes to a locally inside, we protest.
No political party would oppose this move, as the fear of losing the vote banks of the minorities will affect them. Political parties which says there is no religion, and question the existence of God, still announce in media, during their election campaigns in their manifesto that X% of seats have been allotted to the minorities. If there was no God, there would never be the case of Minority or Majority, why are the political parties and the religious organizations / parties not protesting against these.
Kamalhassan did no mistake when compared to what Ramdoss did, who protested against Hindi in schools of TamilNadu, while his grandsons and granddaugthers are in convents in North India. The Government did not question that. Ramdoss even wanted a blanked ban on the inter-caste marriages across India. Did the Government say anything against these ? No, they never cared about the religion there.
But now, when an opportunity comes with a big star, ride on top of him to get the unwanted publicity, and project as if the first thing they are concerned about is the equality of people.

Next week, college students have their semesters coming up, and if all students join together and protest against the university, that examination and the results affect the equality between the student, will the Government cancel the examinations ?
Arent people mature enough to determine whats there in the movie, and whats not.  When whole world was celebrating the Oscar award of Rahman for Slumdog Millionaire did anyone protest against the movie makers for showing Mumbai in such a bad state. After all its a foreigner, and they should always be right.

All one can hope is, he gets what he deserves, and as responsible citizens should at-least not buy the pirated DVDs, which will be out anytime considering the fact that the movie has released already abroad, and is expected to release in Bangalore, and also in Kerala tomorrow.
Everytime he is targeted , he has come out bigger and has let the box office collections and reviews do the talking , all one can hope is he comes out bigger this time also !
Really great lyrics by Vairamuthu, for it will stand as a testament to himself more than the movie,
Neruppukku Piranthaan
Niththan Niththam Malarnthaan
Vaelai Vanthu Saerumbodhu
Velipadum Suyaroopam
Yar Endru Purigiratha
ivan Thee Endru Therigiratha
Thadaigalai Vendrae Sarithiram Padaiththavan
Nyabagam Varugiratha

As long as people have the mindset that their caste/religion is the best, and people claiming doing social service , restrict their activities only to people of their caste/religion, local letterhead parties will dominate, will threaten major political parties, and the big political parties will continue doing the same, and after all its his problem, why should we get involved.

Bye til nex,
