Hello all,
Well first things first, wish you all a happy new year, after all we have survived Dec 21, 2012 !
Oh there is a confusion there, this new year wish is taking into consideration that you and me live in the same world, and for the sake of unity we follow this Gregorian Calendar, popularly attributed as Western Calendar or Christian Calendar.
Well you may think whats the confusion there, as I googled and found that its been followed since 1582, which is way long back. To give a more clear picture for this timeline, it was way long back even before Facebook was begun, even before Sachin Tendulkar was born, even before Sir Don Bradman made his debut, and of course Sir Ravindra Jadeja too, and probably the time when PM had the real power.
You can obviously infer the fact ,since we are following this calendar and it has no problems, and RSS was never a party that time, as if it was there they would not have accepted to follow the Christian Calendar.
Okay, now to the topic, well its holiday season in Tamilnadu, for what reasons nobody knows. I mean just like truth, everybody has their own version for why its celebrated, everybody is happy that these are holidays.
Some people attribute it to Pongal , which is the harvest festival of the state, and a day as Thiruvalluvar Day, the day to signify the birth date of the famous poet Thiruvalluvar. For people who dont know Thiruvalluvar, he is the poet who has written couplets about every topic in the world. For what you may ask, why not write a big one instead of using 7 words , well he was the Nostradamus of his age, he has predicted that Twitter will be the trend in the future.
And now people attribute it to Tamil New year, after all Tamil being the mother of all languages, its necessary that it should have a new year for people to realize the beauty of the language by seeing Tamil movies in TV sets and theaters, and may be using DTH too ( All Hail Kamalahassan and his Viswaroopam ! )
People are convinced about the first 2 reasons, as Pongal is more like a thanksgiving day to the Sun God, ( not DMK ofcourse, DMK has sun as its logo, SUN did not choose DMK ) and the Thiruvalluvar Day.
As per history, Thiruvalluvar is a poet who lived anytime between 2nd Century BC and 5th Century AD, and why Jan 15 is celebrated as his birthday I am not aware of. Probably someguy was badly in need of holidays, may be he didn get a tatkal ticket to report back to office after Pongal, so they made one more day extra holiday in hope that IRCTC will some day give a status OK 200 instead of the standard HTML 503 Service Unavailable.
The Tamil New year is where we have problems, it was earlier in April 14th, and in between Jan 14th and now back to April 14th. This is what real power can do, after all Manmohan Singh should know that this is what power means. Then ruling party DMK moved the Tamil New year from April 14th to Jan 14th, for some reasons only they know. Opposition party opposed it, ruling party celebrated the new year on one day, opposition party celebrated it one day. Only advantage people had is since both the ruling parties have TV channels, on both days they had good movies in their program menu.
People didn complain about holiday , probably cos April14 already was summer holidays time , colleges will have their semester leave, and schools would have their annual leave, so it didn make a difference.
And now with AIADMK back to power tamil new year is again back on April-14.
Now if some other party if comes up in power they will again change the rules, so my solution would be,
well make it in between Jan and April, after all its just a day, March 14 would make a ideal choice, as March month does not have any Government holidays, it will help all.
Or may be December 12 , nobody will even question it, afterall its Thalaivar's birthday, if at all Thalaivar comes to politics, this day will add more value then.12/12 will make a date too , so people dont forget it :)
But its for the government to decide,as a common public man, I am more concerned in my routine for any festival, sit through out the day watch TV special shows, watch the new movie which is releasing, and complain about the movie and TV shows the next day, that it spoils the youth and of course money and time :)
Bye til nex,
